Gerry has decades of insurance experience as a lawyer, an insurance industry planning executive, an insurance industry innovator, and as President and CEO of the sales and marketing arm of one of the world's largest insurance companies. He has also served as a consultant to many leading insurance companies.

Gerry has been licensed as an attorney since 1964 in New York and since 1991 in California. He also has been a member of the Bar of the Supreme Court of the United States since 1977. He graduated with honors from the College of William and Mary in 1961, earned his J.D. from Columbia Law School in 1964, and later completed the Executive Program at the Stanford Graduate School of Business. After serving as an officer with the Army Security Agency, he was trial attorney at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, where he headed the special enforcement unit of the SEC's New York office. He also practiced law at top-rated firms in New York and California.

Gerry, like Bob Scott, also is a member of and former Chairman of the Committee on Group Insurance Programs of the State Bar of California. Gerry also has served as Chair of the Insurance Committee of the American Bar Association's Section of Administrative Law and Regulatory Practice, as a member of that ABA section's Council and Executive Committee. His extensive service to the legal profession and public includes years as the Chair of the Administrative Law Committee of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York and a Vice-Chair of that Association's Professional Responsibility Committee
